DRIVER'S LICENCE
If you have a current driver’s licence in your home country you are permitted to drive in Australia.
It is law that you have your original licence and an English translation with you at all times when driving.
You should also carry your passport and any documentation related to your visit such as a letter from the school that you study at in case of an accident. This is necessary for the police and will make your dealings with them easier.
An international licence should be made in your own country before arrival if you want one. If you hold a provisional licence you will have provisional status in Australia and will abide to the limitations.
If you want to get a licence in Australia, you must first:
- Buy a handbook ($25)
- Do a Driver Knowledge Test ($31 each attempt) to get your Learner’s Licence ($15)
- Do a Driving Test ($38 each attempt) to get your Provisional Licence ($37)
