WELCOME PIEE STUDENTS
Wednesday, 03 January 2007

On Wednesday the PIEE (Program
of International Educational Exchange) students
arrived in Sydney from Japan. The students will
spend 4 weeks at Maewill English College for a
general orientation regarding Australia and an
intensive English course to help prepare them
for their time at high school in Australia.
While studying at MEC they are living with
Australian families on Sydney’s Northern
Beaches. After this the students will go on to a
10 month exchange at different high schools all
over Australia.

This is the 4th time PIEE have
sent a study group to Maewill English College.
Other years have been: 2003, 2005 and 2006. PIEE
is a member of JAOS (Japanese Association of
Overseas Studies) and has been in operation
since 1983. The chairman of the PIEE board is
Ms. Mutsuko Miki, the wife of former Prime
Minister Takeo Miki.
On their first day in Australia
the Japanese students saw some of Sydney's most
famous sights, the Opera House, the Harbour
Bridge and the Rocks. What a great way to start
their experience in Australia.

With only four weeks at Maewill
the PIEE students have been working and studying
really hard to make the most of their time. As
their teacher for the Genre class, which
involves a lot of writing, I can definitely say
that all of them, without exception, have been
making a fantastic effort and in the last 2
weeks I have been able to see an improvement in
their English ability - especially their
writing! Keep up the good work everyone.

PIEE GRADUATION Thursday, 01 February 2007

After an intensive 4 weeks it was finally time to say goodbye to
the Japanese study group. They've finished their English preparation course and
now they are ready to go and discover Australia. The students are going
everywhere including Alice Springs, Adelaide, Rockhampton and Ballina. Good luck
and remember to visit us in 10 months before you return to Japan.

Thank you also to all the warm and friendly homestay families on
the Northern Beaches who helped to make their introduction to Australia so
special!
