SHARE ACCOMMODATION
Share Accommodation includes living in a flat, house or granny flat with other people.
Students do their own cooking and cleaning.
Share accommodation is only for students who have finished high school and are over 18 years of age.
Cost
If you share a house/flat with other people in northern Sydney and have your own room, the cost is around $150/week. If you share a room the cost is less.
Sometimes the accommodation is furnished.
Usually you will have to pay a bond (4 weeks rent). You will also have to pay utilities such as electricity, gas and water usage as well as telephone.
Benefits
Share Accommodation can be cheaper than other accommodation.
You can live with other people who are perhaps the same age.
Depending on your flat mates, there are not as many rules concerning the time you come home, cooking and using the telephone.
Placement
If you are interested, look at the MEC noticeboard or ask at reception. Share accommodation can also be found in the Manly Daily classifieds section, especially on Wednesday and Saturday, and local real estate agents. MEC has temporary share accommodation where you can stay while looking for other share accommodation.
Please note that we don’t arrange permanent share accommodation for students before they come to Australia, but will help you look for it once you have arrived.
