TRANSPORT

There is no train line on Sydney’s northern beaches. There are bus and ferry services.

Please note that overseas students do not get concession rates on transport in the Sydney Metropolitan area. If you are over 15 years old you must buy an adult ticket. The fine is over $100.

Bus
You can get bus timetables and bus tickets from newsagents. The Public Transport Information line is 131 500, and the website is www.sydneybuses.nsw.gov.au

Ferry
There is a ferry service from Manly Wharf to Circular Quay which leaves every 30 minutes.
The Jetcats leave every 15 minutes.

There is also a Palm Beach Ferry Service around the Pittwater Area: 9918 2747 www.palmbeachferry.com.au

Taxi
Taxis in the Sydney area cost around:
$2.55 for flagfall
$1.45 per kilometer (more between 10pm and 6am)
$1.25 for radio booking

Airport
MEC can take you to and from the airport for $100.
If you want to catch public transport, there is a train from the airport to Sydney city. The Sydney Airport Link leaves every ten minutes to Central Station and costs $11 for an adult ticket. You will then need to catch a bus to the northern beaches.

Car Hire
To hire a car you should be over 21. Rates vary from car type to the duration of hire. The longer you hire, the cheaper the daily rate.

Buying a Car
If you want to buy a car, there are many new and used car yards around the area.
You can also try looking in the weekly newspaper The Trading Post (available at newsagents) or online at: www.tradingpost.com.au

You need to make sure you have a valid driver’s licence and that the car is registered. Information about registering a car can be found at:

Bicycle
There are many new and used bicycle shops in the northern beaches area.
If you want to ride a bicycle to school, you have to make sure you wear a helmet and follow the road rules (e.g. you cannot ride your bicycle on the footpath).
