VISITING CHINESE TEACHERS FROM JINAN Background On May 15th and 16th 2002, the principal of MEC, Mr. William Salsbury, was in the city of Jinan in Shandong Province for discussions with the Director of the Jinan Education Bureau Mr. LIU Yuan Gang and the Deputy Director, Mr. CHEN Dong Sheng. Following these two days of meetings, it was agreed that English Language teachers from various middle schools in Jinan would take part in an intensive training program being offered by MEC. A group of 20 teachers including the deputy director Mr. Chen took part in a 6 week intensive course between 15 July and 23 August 2002; and a further group of 31 came for a similar course for 4 weeks between 05 August and 30 August 2002. Graduation ceremonies for these two groups were attended by Mr. Li Jian Min and Mr. AN Yu Feng from the Chinese Consulate General’s Education Office in Sydney. The event was also covered in the Sydney newspapers. Current group On Monday August 01st 2005 another group of some 34 middle school teachers from Jinan arrived at Maewill to commence a 4 week intensive program – the CETT program : Chinese English Teacher Training. The group leader is Mr WU Wei Liang, and his deputy is Mr LIU Hong Qing. The group are staying at the Collaroy Beach-house – a short 10 minute bus ride to the college. Maewill’s director of program development in China, Ms. Annie Tang has flown in from China to specially look after the teachers over this 4 week period. Ms. Sally Higgins, Mr. Peter Roberts and Mr. Rob MacLachlan are delivering the program. Ms. Higgins was the Director of a large city college before coming to Maewill. Mr. Roberts has many years High School teaching experience in Australia, is a published author and has also taught English for many years in China. Mr. MacLachlan was a teacher in the original program in 2002. |
